Why Persona Matters Most
An AI character's charm comes from consistency: readers believe the character exists because every reply honors the same values and speech habits.
Step 1: Core Setup
Answer in three sentences:
- Who they are (identity, age, situation)
- What they want (motivation drives every conversation)
- What they hide (contradiction makes them feel real)
Step 2: Speech Style
Define verbal tics, sentence length, and tone. Aloof characters use short sentences; gentle ones ask questions back — write examples directly into the persona and the AI will follow them.
Step 3: Opening Line
The opening line sets the first impression. Don't have the character introduce themselves — have them in the middle of doing something: offering an umbrella, complaining about rain, or texting "can't sleep?" at midnight.
Next Steps
Open the character editor and fill in the three sections above. After publishing, chat for five turns yourself to check whether the voice drifts.
